OZ Minerals recently awarded York Civil the Stage 3 Raising Construction Work for the Tailings Storage Facility at Prominent Hill copper and gold mine in South Australia.
The works include bulk earthworks to raise the existing tailings dam embankments using compacted clay mine waste, and raising the central access causeway.
The project will be delivered in a tight program, transporting 780,000m3 of stockpile material at an average distance of 2.5km per load.
The project is a welcomed return to Prominent Hill where York Civil delivered three packages between 2007 and 2009 valued at over $37 million.
These projects included bulk and detailed earthworks and structural concrete works on the mine process plant, and construction of bored footings for the 132kV Transmission Line from Olympic Dam to the Prominent Hill mine site.
