Innisfail Sewage Treatment Plant

Due to the ageing infrastructure and issues with effluent discharge quality at the existing plant, a new plant was required at Innisfail. The new plant would increase the capacity while improving the quality of effluent discharge to comply with licence requirements.

The work was carried out by York Civil and involved the design and construction of the new plant while retaining the existing plant for standby purposes.

Project features included inlet structure, odour control and rag disposal facility, oxidation ditch, two clarifiers with provision for a third, commissioning and pressure testing of all pipework, buildings, chemical and diesel storage, and associated road works and fencing.

The project was awarded the 2012 Queensland Civil Contractors Federation Earth Awards – Category 4 for projects valued between $20 and $75 million.
