North South Interconnection System Central Pipeline

The objective of SA Water’s North South Interconnection System Project was to upgrade the existing metropolitan Adelaide distribution network infrastructure through the provision of interconnectivity between the northern and southern water supply networks.

York Civil delivered the Central Pipeline component of the works which comprised a 10.4km pipeline (714mm inside diameter) between Gilberton Pump Station and Hope Valley Clearwater tanks.

The underground pipeline was laid  in residential and commercial districts of Adelaide’s inner suburbs.

Project features included multiple crews and work fronts, service investigations, a tight work program, extensive environmental, community and stakeholder management, traffic management and micro-tunnelling under major road intersections.

The project was awarded the Civil Contractors Federation Earth Awards – Category 4 Project Value between $20 and $75 million (South Australia, 2013). More award winning projects are listed here.
