Olympic Dam Tailings Disposal Upgrade

BHP Billiton required an increase in the capacity of the existing tailings storage facilities.  The works to achieve this comprised of the construction of a new tailings dam, associated piping and pumping works.

York Civil was contracted to undertake the civil and structural concrete works for the pump station and associated conduit works.

Earthworks totalled approximately 10,000m3. Roadworks included supply, placement and compaction of subbase and basecourse.

Concrete works were undertaken for three pump bases, the transformer compound, footings and slabs for pump equipment, cable trays and pipes. Works included retaining walls, foundations and pedestals, slabs and concrete walls.
