Yaamba Road Pedestrian Overpass

The Yaamba Road Pedestrian Overpass was designed to enhance pedestrian access and provide a safe passage across the Bruce Highway; the busiest highway in Queensland.

York Civil was the principal contractor under an Early Contractor Involvement model for the design and construction of the overpass.

The 120t, 48m single-span steel truss was designed, constructed and then transported from the assembly yard to the site and lifted into position over the highway. The unique structure is believed to be the longest span Vierendeel pedestrian crossing in Australia.

The project also involved mechanical and electrical services for lights, lifts and security, and an intersection upgrade.

The project was awarded the Civil Contractors Federation Earth Awards – Category 3 Project Value between $5 and $20 million (Queensland Winner, 2010). More award winning projects can be viewed here.
