Christies Beach Waste Water Treatment Plant Upgrade

The Christies Beach Waste Water Treatment Plant (WWTP) Upgrade is a $272 million project to upgrade the existing plant for the purpose of:

  • increasing the capacity of the plant to meet projected demand to the year 2030
  • reducing the nutrient load discharged to the marine environment in the Gulf
  • reduce demand on potable supply
  • decommissioning and rehabilitating the Noarlunga Downs sludge lagoons
  • improving the general amenity of the area around the plant

The plant receives and treats wastewater from the surrounding communities and industry.  Once completed, it will provide reclaimed water for agricultural and viticulture use in the Willunga Basin region as well as for urban use.
