Township Roxby Downs
Roxby Downs is located in the remote desert approximately 600 kilometres north of Adelaide in South Australia. The township was established to support the mining operations at Olympic Dam. In its current form Olympic Dam is the world's fourth largest remaining copper deposit, fifth largest gold deposit and the largest uranium deposit.
It is expected that the remote township will grow from its current number of some 4,000 residents to approximately 8,000 - 10,000 if the proposed Olympic Dam Expansion goes ahead. However, to meet the current growth of BHP Billiton's operations since acquiring the mine at Olympic Dam, York Civil was contracted to construct the new extensions of the township which includes a 220-block subdivision and associated infrastructure.
